If you are missing any teeth and wish to improve your chewing ability, your appearance, your speech, and your self-esteem, then you should consider dental implants. A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth and is made from surgical-grade titanium alloy (Ti 6Al-4V ELI) to exact specifications. Initially, the implant is placed into the jawbone either immediately after the loss of a tooth, or after an extended period of time.
If there is insufficient bone, various bone enhancing procedures can be performed prior to the implant placement. An abutment, which acts as a base for a prosthetic tooth replacement, such as a crown, is inserted into the implant at the time of implant placement, or after a period of healing.
For many people, implant dentistry can be used to replace one or more teeth in a secure, comfortable way. A great alternative to traditional dentures, implants look and feel more natural, don’t sacrifice the integrity of your surrounding teeth, last for years, and allow you to speak and eat with more confidence.
In the unfortunate event of tooth loss or a tooth that must be extracted, you now have the opportunity to replace that tooth with an implant. Dental implants are placed within the jaws in replace of the missing tooth root.
The jaw then heals for four months before the porcelain crown is placed on top. In many cases the crown can be placed the same day the implant is placed into the jaw. Missing single and even multiple teeth can be replaced by dental implants.
Dental Implants Look Good
Dental Implants are recommended not just because they look good, but also because they serve multiple implications. When some teeth are missing within your mouth the remaining teeth have a tendency to gradually shift their position.
In the long term, this can lead to dis-figuration and result in a serious impact on the bite of a person. By choosing dental implants to solve this issue it provides an even distribution of pressure when the person bites and chews. This properly fixes the problem seen with missing teeth permanently.
With your teeth properly fixed and in place, Dental Implants allow for both your confidence, and your bite ability to be restored to what they were prior to any teeth being lost.
Most often there are two separate phases of dental implant treatment. The 1st phase is the actual placement of the dental implant, the artificial tooth root. Dental Implants are routinely placed under local anesthesia, the same type of anesthesia that you would receive for a filling for other routine dental work.
Here at Victorian Dental, we also offer several different sedation options which can help you relax during the appointment if needed. Following a healing period ranging from 2 to 6 months, the 2nd phase of the implant treatment is completed where the Dr. Rae attaches the crown or artificial tooth itself to the implant.
Dental implants are placed with local anesthesia, and once the area is numb you will not feel any pain during the procedure. Post-Operation, the area may be a little sore for a few days. If needed regular over the counter pain relievers can be taken if necessary.
You should be ready to return back to work, and resume your normal activities within a day to two days after our operation. Keep in mind that your bone is not innervated like soft tissue is, so less nerves are involved.
